An arts rehabilitation program in solidarity with
the Latino Development Organization of Washington

The Alchemy Art Studio is an arts rehabilitation workshop and performance ensemble at Monroe Correctional Facility in Monroe, WA, sponsored by the Latino Development Organization. The program offers ongoing, bi-lingual arts training and cultural experiences to participants, with a focus on both performing and visual arts. We do this work in solidarity with incarcerated artists and leaders who help to steer our work - with the goals of repairing negative relationships our participants might have had with formal education; teachings participants how to tell their personal stories from a place of power; bolstering self-confidence and self-esteem; and resulting in the creation of new, original devised performances each year.

The New Alchemists help to facilitate ongoing masterclasses and weekly workshops focused in visual and performing arts. There are often opportunities for visiting artists to teach masterclasses, or share their skills with these artists.
