About the Event
The New Alchemists are proud to support our founding artists Lily Raabe (Director) and Ahmed Alabaca (Composer/Conductor) as they conduct a 3-day Theatre of the Oppressed and Applied Theatre workshop May 15-17, 2020 exploring food justice, food insecurity, and how the climate crisis will impact our food systems. They will work with an ensemble of 8 performers and 4 musicians, using Theatre of the Oppressed, musical improvisation and social justice pedagogy to create 2 short Forum Theatre performances. This work will be presented as part of FROM THE GROUND UP: an evening of audience-engaged performance and civic dialogue co-produced in partnership with local nonprofits The Common Acre, One Vibe Africa, and Intiman Theatre; and sponsored by the Cascade People’s Center and the Office of Arts & Culture. We will host a public performance and civic dialogue on Sunday, May 17 at 5:30pm.
